Frequently Asked Questions
Your Questions, Answered
What type of massage is right for me?
It really depends on what your goals are for your session. However I try to keep it simple by narrowing it down to just 2 main choices.
1. For a calming Swedish relaxation massage designed to soothe the nervous system, reduce stress, and promote deep relaxation. Choose Quiet Waters.
2. For a customized therapeutic massage experience focused on pain relief, tension reduction, mobility, and overall wellness.
Choose The Still Waters Effect.
Are you handicap accesible?
Yes I am on ground level as soon as you walk in the first door to the right. And the restroom is directly accross the hall. There is also Handicap Parking.
How should I prepare for my first treatment?
-Be sure to wear little to no jewelry.
-Be sure you are hygienically conscious, don't come after a gym work out or a hot day of work, give yourself a chance to get refreshed before coming in to your appointment. This is so important to allow your body a better experience as your muscles will be more receptive to the therapy.
- Do not take any pain killers before your session, it is very important that you do not alter your pain sense.
- Make sure you know that names of all you medications you are currently taking, as some medications contradict massage therapy.
What should I expect from my first session?
Your first session is really a chance for me; your therapist to get to know you, and what you will benefit from the most. I will be learning your holding patterns and trouble areas. Then after your first session I can start creating a plan to help aid in those areas, and really help get you back to your goal. Don't worry that doesn't mean it wont be beneficial.
You may feel a little dizzy which is completely normal as we are getting your circulation moving and releasing toxins. To help alleviate this please be sure to drink plenty of water afterwards.
Deep Tissue?
**Deep tissue is not a term to imply you like strong pressure/deep work during your massage.**
There is a big misconception about deep tissue massage.
Many people believe that "deep tissue massage" simply means a firmer or more intense massage—but that’s not the case. True Deep Tissue Massage is actually a very specific type of bodywork. It targets muscles located deep beneath multiple layers of tissue, and it is performed as dry work—meaning no oils or lotions are used. Clients remain fully clothed, often in athletic attire.
In fact, Deep Tissue Massage is more accurately known as Rolfing®, a specialized technique focused on structural integration and posture correction.
Because the term “deep tissue” has been widely misunderstood in the U.S., you’ll see that my Therapeutic Massage service is labeled as “deep tissue” to help guide clients toward what they’re usually looking for—a firm, focused massage that relieves tension and addresses problem areas.
While I am trained in true Deep Tissue Massage (Rolfing®), I currently do not offer this specific service. Instead, my Therapeutic Massage provides the deeper, results-driven work most people are seeking.
